I absolutely would like to have Dr. Aronstein back. He is the type of mentor/person that would help me grow as an administrator because of his honest straightforward style.
These strategies and techniques are new way of “doing business” for us. I think a follow-up with Larry may be helpful to hear of our progress, challenges, and offer further guidance as we move forward.
It will be especially useful when talking to community members. I think we were reminded to listen, consider, and to not be defensive when something happens.
I learned a great deal about communication protocols that I will use to be a more effective leader. I have already used the CPO when I spoke with new teachers today. I also plan to share the conversational protocols with my staff members and use them to make for more productive conversations.
I saw myself and how I have negatively contributed to the administrative team. I have a habit of interrupting people and the Conversation protocol was very, very helpful. Sometimes I don’t know what it is that I am doing that might be annoying to the team. I feel that the team can now help me by non-critically referring to the protocol to help me break my habit.
Given the culture of the last six years for the administrative team, this workshop was extremely appropriate, timely and useful in recreating an atmosphere of collaboration and trust.
I found myself reflecting a lot on past experiences that called for my leadership. I kept asking myself questions such as, “did I speak from the heart?” or “did I slow down the inquiry?” Our conversations were also helpful in identifying where I think I have weaknesses and a better understanding of why and how these need to be remedied.
Larry has a familiar and easy manner but carries the confidence of experience and preparation. His conversational method worked well with our small group.
He was very prepared and has an approachable style and sense of humor. It made the day go by quickly.
I really enjoyed Larry’s approach to the workshop. His approach was personable, relaxed and extremely relevant to our situation. He blended real-life experiences with strategies that will be beneficial to our leadership team.
What I was most impressed with was how down-to-earth Larry was. He was one of “us.” He dressed casually, he sat right at the table among us. He didn’t stand up and preach and hammer things down our throats. He provided an environment that encouraged us to provide feedback, ask questions, and speak honestly. I think it is fair to say that he created an environment that we were comfortable in and allowed for collaboration. The session had a very “real” feel to it.
